Handmade in Our Little Studio — The Story of Our First Snuffle Mat

There’s something really special about making something with your own hands. The quiet rhythm of cutting, tying, shaping, and watching an idea slowly turn into something real. This week, I decided to try something new in the studio — a handmade snuffle mat for Dolly.

I’ve always loved enrichment toys, especially the ones that encourage calm, slow foraging. They’re gentle, they’re soothing, and they give dogs a chance to use their natural instincts in a really comforting way. So I gathered my fleece, my scissors, my cutting mat, and a cup of tea, and I started creating.

Piece by piece, strip by strip, the mat began to take shape. Soft greys, warm pinks, and that fluffy texture that makes you want to run your hands through it. It felt like the perfect blend of cosy and practical — very Dolly & Co.

Of course, no product leaves this house without being tested by the supervisor herself. The moment I placed it on the floor, Dolly trotted over with that “Is this for me?” look. Within seconds she was snuffling, sniffing, and investigating every fold. Tail wagging. Nose working. Completely absorbed. That’s when I knew it was worth making.

Before anything goes on the website, I always make sure it’s safe, durable, and washable. So this little mat is currently going through the full Dolly & Co testing routine — which basically means Dolly gets to enjoy it, and then it gets a good wash to make sure it holds up beautifully.

What I love most about this project is that it reminded me why I started Dolly & Co in the first place. Handmade things carry a softness that mass‑produced items never can. They hold time, care, and intention. They feel personal. And that’s exactly what I want every product here to feel like.

Once Dolly has fully approved it (and she takes her job very seriously), this snuffle mat will be joining the website as part of our handmade enrichment range. I can’t wait to share it properly — but for now, I hope you enjoy this little behind‑the‑scenes moment from our studio.

Handmade, tested with love, and always Dolly‑approved.
